How My Character Likely Influences the Sound of My Voice

The things that make me, me (my character, interests, personality, and where I grew up) influence what my voice sounds like when I read voiceover scripts.

“Northern”

I was born in Stockport, Cheshire (near Manchester). Here’s a BBC documentary read in my Northern accent.

“Young”

My voice is a popular pick for adverts for colleges and universities, explainer videos for educational institutions and children’s TV commercials.

“Cool”

  1. Cool Commercials Josh Shirt Voice Over 0:47

I love electronic music. I hosted a dance music radio show in Portugal and I’ve promoted a multitude of music events across the UK and Europe with this “ice cold” delivery.

“Natural”

Just me, y’know, sounding casual.

“Technical”

  1. Medical Narration Josh Shirt Voice Over 0:29

I grew up in a family of engineers and scientists and I’m passionate about these things, too. This helps me do a good job when recording technical and medical scripts.

More examples of my voice are on my showreels page.

I hope you found this post useful. If you think that I could be a good fit for your project, please get in touch.
